Snow is expected to arrive in the UK by the upcoming weekend, with the likelihood of snowfall predominantly in northern areas. Although the official onset of winter snow is pending, meteorologists predict a light dusting starting next Friday, potentially lasting for three to four days.
Following a remarkably mild October and early November, the Met Office anticipates a cooler week ahead, with increased chances of frost overnight midway through the month. Weather projections indicate the initial snowfall around 6pm on Friday, November 14, with a few centimeters forecasted in parts of Scotland, particularly near Inverness.
According to Jim Dale, a senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, the snow could extend as far south as northern England. Dale mentioned to the Mirror that snow is expected in the north by the same time next week, possibly continuing for several days. Temperature drops below freezing are also foreseen from the following Friday, with Glasgow and Aberdeen expected to reach -1°C that night, while southern England may experience around 6°C heading into Monday morning.
Furthermore, the Met Office outlook includes forecasts of frost and overnight fog toward the middle of the month, with the potential for hill snow by the end of November. The extended forecast for November 12 to November 21 indicates unsettled and mild conditions at the start, with rain moving across the UK, particularly focusing on western and southern regions. The transition to drier weather and cooler temperatures is expected by the middle of the month, with an increased risk of overnight frost.
