UK Foreign Secretary Commends Brave Gaza Children

Date:

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper recently visited courageous young individuals who were evacuated from Gaza for urgent medical treatment.

One of the children, an eight-year-old named Mohammed, lost his leg due to a bombing incident in Khan Younis several months ago. After receiving initial care in a Jordanian field hospital in Gaza, he was airlifted to Amman, Jordan, where he underwent treatment and was fitted with a prosthetic leg. Despite facing challenges, Mohammed has successfully relearned to walk and has resumed his favorite activities, such as playing football.

During the visit to the Specialty Hospital in Amman, Ms. Cooper commended Mohammed for his bravery and encouraged his aspiration to become a policeman like his father. Mohammed, now engaged in online studies, including subjects like English, Arabic, and Maths, is also following his beloved football team, Real Madrid.

Additionally, Ms. Cooper interacted with two sisters, Sarraa aged 17, and Sara aged 15, who sustained severe injuries during a bombing incident in December 2024. Following their rescue from the rubble of their home in Gaza, the sisters were airlifted to Jordan for medical assistance. Sarraa underwent plastic surgery on her forehead and eye, while Sara, who was initially paralyzed, has regained partial use of her upper body and can now use a wheelchair.

Dr. Osama Hamed, a surgeon at the hospital in Jordan, expressed the challenging conditions in Gaza due to the scarcity of medical supplies and resources. He highlighted the dire healthcare situation in the region, emphasizing the urgent need for support and resources to address the medical crisis.

Ms. Cooper affirmed the UK’s commitment to rebuilding Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure and facilitating further medical evacuations for treatment in the UK. She mentioned ongoing discussions with various countries to enhance healthcare support for Gaza and emphasized the importance of restoring and strengthening the health services in the region.

Efforts are being made to address the healthcare crisis in Gaza, with a focus on rebuilding and improving medical facilities and services to provide essential care to those in need.
