The Prime Minister has pledged a commitment to future generations by announcing a series of agreements aimed at advancing the clean energy revolution. Keir Starmer is set to address global leaders at COP 30 in Belem, Brazil, emphasizing the economic potential of clean energy in creating jobs and fostering growth.
Ministers have revealed partnerships with companies like ScottishPower, JERA Nex bp, EnBW, and Statera Energy. Prior to his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted a £50 billion investment in UK clean energy industries over the past year, with an expected 800,000 jobs by the end of the decade.
Expressing determination, he stated, “Our mission is to accelerate the clean power revolution, ensuring energy security, reducing bills permanently, and stimulating growth nationwide.” The Prime Minister emphasized the creation of quality jobs in areas such as Great Yarmouth, Belfast, and Greater Manchester, illustrating a national renewal that supports working people across the UK.
The agreements include funding exceeding £100 million for Belfast Harbour to facilitate the construction of two major offshore wind farms in the Irish Sea. Additionally, Carrington in Greater Manchester will host a significant battery facility. Investments in the Port of East Anglia, including a £15 million upgrade for a new operations center, and Scottish Power’s backing of the East Anglia TWO windfarm in the North Sea were also announced.
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to combating climate change, asserting that cooperation in this effort leads to job creation, energy security, and economic progress. The Prime Minister emphasized the dual responsibility of protecting the planet for future generations while securing jobs in the country during a recent address to sixth formers.
