The country experienced low single-digit temperatures and even dropped to 0 degrees Celsius in some northern regions due to a persistent blast of cold Arctic air. However, a shift in weather patterns is anticipated to bring about a change in conditions over the upcoming days.
The latest forecasts from the Met Office suggest that daytime temperatures will rise to the low-to-mid teens in many areas this week, with highs reaching 15 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and climbing to 16 degrees Celsius in southern England by Friday afternoon.
Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst mentioned in a recent forecast that a weather system moving in from the northwest will bring cloud cover and rain across the country over the next 24 hours. He also indicated that temperatures are expected to increase gradually as the week progresses, with more Atlantic weather influencing the conditions.
Exacta Weather’s James Madden predicts the possibility of further wintry showers, particularly in Scotland, from Tuesday onwards, with the chance of the cold weather persisting until Halloween. Despite recent wet and windy weather, conditions are likely to improve starting tomorrow, with lighter rain showers anticipated and brighter spells developing in most areas by midweek.
Monday is expected to start with sunny spells and isolated showers, with heavy rain moving in by the evening in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The southeast regions are forecasted to remain dry. The weather is expected to remain changeable with occasional rain or showers, especially in the northwest, while the southeast regions experience drier and brighter conditions. Temperatures are projected to return to near-average levels for this time of year.
