When looking for a hotel, whether it’s in the UK or abroad, the abundance of choices can be overwhelming. However, my curiosity led me to book a stay at a unique four-star boutique hotel in Europe that revolved around a bathroom theme.
I decided to check into WC by The Beautique Hotels for a three-night getaway during a summer visit to Lisbon, Portugal. After attending a wedding in the country, I planned to explore the city, making this hotel an ideal spot to relax after a day of exploring.
Upon my arrival at the hotel, I was immediately struck by the unique bathroom-themed decor. The entrance featured tap graphics on the doors and a large window adorned with a picture of a woman in a shower cap. The WC, standing for water closet, theme was evident throughout the establishment, exceeding my expectations.
The reception area boasted a large white bathtub with a silver faucet and a rose gold shower head above it, creating a serene spa-like ambiance with a feature wall depicting raindrops and flowing water.
As I lingered at the front desk, I admired the consistent bathroom theme evident in every corner, from the tiled water floor to the bar counter shaped like a bathtub holding a bottle of gin. The blue tiled walls and a second reception desk enclosed by a clear shower curtain added to the immersive experience.
The surprise continued as one of the receptionists appeared in long-sleeved silk pajamas, enhancing the thematic ambiance. Some visitors even noted staff wearing towels on their heads, contributing to the overall aesthetic of the hotel. The quirky attire added an element of fun to the stay.
Entering my deluxe double room, which I had booked online through Expedia, located in a curved section of the hotel, offered stunning panoramic views of Lisbon’s lively streets below.
In line with the room’s curvature, a circular bed faced the expansive windows draped with shower-like curtains. The room featured glossy turquoise wall tiles extending into the bathroom, gloss-white wardrobes, and glassware reminiscent of bubbles in a bath, creating a cohesive design.
While the bathroom did not fully match the uniqueness found elsewhere in the hotel, its spacious layout and essential amenities were adequate. Despite the thematic constraints, the room provided a comfortable stay with plush robes and a generously sized bathroom.
