Former Prince Andrew is under scrutiny by US lawmakers for his lack of response as they intensify their investigation into the deceased billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Stripped of his royal titles and set to leave his 30-room mansion, Royal Lodge, Andrew has been urged by US politicians to provide insights into his longstanding relationship with Epstein. Despite vehemently denying all allegations against him, Andrew has remained silent.
The House Oversight Committee, the primary investigative body in the House of Representatives, has formally requested Andrew to participate in a transcribed interview regarding Epstein and the US government’s handling of the case. A letter signed by 16 congress members set a deadline of November 20 for Andrew to respond. However, in the absence of communication from the former duke, Democrats Ranking Member Robert Garcia and Congressman Suhas Subramanyam criticized Andrew’s silence, emphasizing the importance of addressing the serious questions raised by the investigation.
Although the committee lacks the authority to compel non-US citizens or foreign nationals outside the US to testify, Andrew was not legally obligated to comply. Following the removal of all his royal titles by King Charles, the release of Virginia Guiffre’s posthumous memoir shed light on her traumatic experiences with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Guiffre, who passed away earlier this year, accused Andrew of assaulting her when she was a teenager, an accusation he vehemently denies.
In a related development, Donald Trump signed legislation allowing the release of the Epstein files after facing criticism for delaying the process. This decision came after a House vote of 427-1 and unanimous Senate approval, following mounting pressure on the president to make the documents public.
As Andrew prepares to relocate to a property on the Sandringham estate, his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, who also relinquished her titles, faces uncertainty about her future living arrangements. Reports suggest that Fergie will not return to live with Andrew, indicating a shift in their relationship dynamics. Royal expert Hilary Fordwich highlighted Sarah’s apprehension about her future and the changing dynamics between her and Andrew amidst public scrutiny and disapproval.
