Vodafone has introduced a new method for internet access that utilizes a 5G mobile signal instead of traditional copper or fiber connections. Their latest Wi-Fi router enables users to download files and stream movies wirelessly, offering a flexible solution for households lacking access to faster fiber connections or for individuals needing mobility, such as renters or students who frequently change residences.
One of the key advantages of this new system is its easy installation process. Since it operates on Vodafone’s network, there is no need for professional installation services or drilling holes in walls. Users can simply plug the router into a power source, switch it on, and immediately connect to the internet.
It is important to note that this new system provides speeds of up to 150Mbps, which is suitable for activities like streaming movies on Netflix, sending emails, and working from home. However, it falls short of the speeds offered by full fiber connections, which can exceed 900Mbps.
To assist consumers in making informed decisions, Vodafone has launched an integrated availability checker on their website. By entering their postcode, customers can determine whether full fiber or 5G Broadband would deliver the fastest speeds in their area.
This is not the first time Vodafone has offered 5G internet access, as they previously had the GigaCube device, which has now been replaced by this new router.
Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director at VodafoneThree, emphasized the benefits of Vodafone’s 5G Broadband, highlighting the speed, value, and convenience it offers to households currently facing slow and unreliable internet connections.
In addition to Vodafone, Three, now part of Vodafone, also provides a similar service. Vodafone’s plans start at £21 per month, while Three’s home broadband is currently priced at £11 for the first nine months.
