Travelling to a European island destination with warm winter climate and a captivating historic center is set to become more convenient. Wizz Air has announced the introduction of six new routes from London Luton Airport, including a route to Chania in Crete, with one-way fares starting at £44.99.
Chania, located on the northwest coast of the Greek island, is famous for its 14th-century Venetian harbor, charming narrow streets, and waterfront dining spots. The city boasts a 16th-century lighthouse at the harbor entrance, showcasing a blend of Venetian, Egyptian, and Ottoman architectural influences.
In contrast to the UK, Chania is expected to reach temperatures of up to 19C this week and next. Travel writer Brian Dillon, who recently visited Chania, was mesmerized by the city’s charm. He described his experience of sunny weather and warm temperatures during his trip in September.
Dillon noted that Chania offers a unique Greek experience compared to other popular tourist spots. The city provides a balance of tourist attractions and authentic Greek charm, especially evident in its cuisine. He praised the exceptional service and delightful flavors he encountered in local Greek restaurants.
Wizz Air will begin operating flights to Chania and four other Greek destinations – Mykonos, Rhodes, and Zakynthos – as well as routes to Bordeaux and Dortmund starting next spring. Flights to Mykonos will run three times a week, while the other Greek destinations will have twice-weekly flights.
The new Greece routes are scheduled to start on May 13, 2026, just in time for the summer season, with fares starting at £44.99*. Tickets can be purchased on the Wizz Air website and mobile app. This expansion comes as Wizz Air enlarges its operations at London Luton Airport, with the addition of a 14th aircraft to its fleet, offering services to 60 destinations from the airport.
Yvonne Moynihan, Managing Director at Wizz Air UK, expressed excitement about the new routes, emphasizing the affordability and accessibility of dream holidays to Europe’s popular destinations, including Greece’s picturesque beaches. The addition of the 14th aircraft at London Luton Airport aims to enhance flexibility and options for UK travelers.
