“Maximize Oven Heat: Stay Cozy Without Central Heating”

Date:

A suggestion from a British Gas energy expert offers a method to warm up your house without using your central heating. According to smart energy engineer Jessica Rawstron, you can maximize the residual heat from your oven by leaving the door open after cooking. Rawstron advises letting the heat slowly transfer into your kitchen instead of closing the oven door immediately after removing the food. This simple tip can help maintain a warm household ambiance while you enjoy your meal, but caution should be taken to keep children and pets away from the open oven door.

British Gas also provides tips on winter home preparation, such as sealing drafts around windows and doors. Additionally, it is recommended to bleed your radiators regularly and ensure your boiler receives its annual service to guarantee efficient heating.

As temperatures drop across parts of the UK, yellow warnings for snow and ice have been issued. Northern Scotland is under a yellow warning for snow and ice on Wednesday, while a yellow weather alert for snow is in effect from Thursday evening until Friday noon for areas in England like Sheffield, Peterborough, Bath, Worcester, and much of Wales.

With the increase in energy bills, the average household paying via direct debit can now expect to spend around £1,758 annually on gas and electricity. Although the price cap restricts unit rates and standing charges, the total bill remains dependent on individual energy consumption. Customers not on fixed energy tariffs fall under the price cap system. The price cap for pre-payment meter users has risen to £1,711 per year, and those paying upon receipt of the bill now face an annual charge of £1,894. The price cap is subject to quarterly updates, with the next revision scheduled for April 2026.
