Rachel Reeves has pledged to address the cost of living to assist families impacted by years of austerity under the Conservative government.
In a commitment to Mirror readers, the Chancellor has promised a Budget that aims to reduce NHS waiting lists, decrease national debt, and lower the cost of living.
Scheduled for November 26, Ms. Reeves’ second Budget is anticipated to eliminate the two-child benefit cap, introduce taxes on high-value properties, and take steps to lower energy bills.
Emphasizing the importance of “working families,” Ms. Reeves stated that the Budget would focus on creating a fairer, more resilient Britain.
She reiterated her dedication to cutting NHS waiting lists, reducing national debt, and easing the financial burden on households. Ms. Reeves stressed the need to prioritize essential services over debt interest payments.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by ordinary families due to high prices, Ms. Reeves underscored the urgency of addressing the cost of living in her upcoming Budget.
The government has already made progress in areas such as healthcare, education, and child welfare. However, Ms. Reeves assured Mirror readers that her Budget would extend these efforts further.
Additionally, Ms. Reeves will announce the recruitment of additional planners to accelerate the construction of 1.5 million homes, aiming to streamline infrastructure projects that have faced delays.
In response to better economic forecasts, targeted tax increases are expected instead of broad-based hikes previously suggested.
The Budget is also set to unveil measures to name and shame employers violating minimum wage laws, with stricter penalties in place to protect vulnerable workers.
Furthermore, the government plans to grant Border Force and HM Revenue & Customs enhanced powers to seize illegal vapes and impose hefty fines, alongside introducing new criminal sanctions for business owners breaking regulations.
