Heartbroken family members of a young student who tragically lost her life in a car crash have initiated a fundraising campaign to repatriate her remains. Chloe Hipson, a 21-year-old student, met with a fatal accident alongside four friends when their VW Golf was involved in a collision near Dundalk, Co Louth, Ireland, on Saturday night. Chloe, hailing from Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland, passed away along with Chloe McGee, Alan McCluskey, Dylan Commins, and Shay Duffy, all from the Republic of Ireland.
To assist with the funeral expenses and the repatriation of Chloe’s body, Bellshill Amateurs FC has launched a fundraiser. Chloe’s brother, Ryan, a player at the club, is deeply affected by the tragedy. The initiative has garnered over £17,000 in donations.
The fundraising effort, led by Steven McLuckie on GoFundMe, aims to support the Hipson family in covering the funeral and repatriation costs for Chloe. Describing Chloe as a vibrant young woman whose life was cut short prematurely, the campaign seeks to provide her family with the opportunity to bid her a proper farewell.
With more than 700 contributors already donating and more support pouring in, the community is rallying behind the cause. Chloe, a second-year student at the Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT), lost her life in the collision that occurred in Gibstown late in the evening.
Chloe and her friends were reportedly en route to Dundalk for a night out when their Volkswagen Golf collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser. The tragic incident has left Ireland in a state of mourning, with Prime Minister Micheal Martin expressing shock and sadness, and Deputy Premier Simon Harris acknowledging the profound grief that has enveloped the nation.
Reflecting the family’s profound sorrow, Chloe’s cousin Elizabeth Elliot conveyed their devastation, emphasizing Chloe’s impact on their lives and her untimely departure. Chloe’s aunts, Chantelle Hipson and Marie Mcstravock, shared heartfelt messages expressing their deep loss and love for the departed soul.
