The sixth person from the car involved in a tragic crash that claimed the lives of five individuals in Ireland has been discharged from the hospital. The fatal collision occurred on Saturday evening when a Volkswagen Golf, carrying Chloe McGee, Alan McCluskey, Dylan Commins, Shay Duffy, and Chloe Hipson, collided with a Toyota Landcruiser on the L3168 at Gibstown, Dundalk. The sixth occupant of the car, also in his 20s, has now been released from medical care.
Two individuals in their 20s from the Toyota Landcruiser remain hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Post-mortem examinations have been conducted, and the deceased individuals’ remains have been returned to their families. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
Vigils were held in memory of the victims at three gaelic football grounds in counties Louth, Meath, and Monaghan. The victims hailed from various locations, including Carrickmacross, Drumconrath, Ardee, and Lanarkshire in Scotland. Superintendent Charlie Armstrong of Dundalk Garda Station confirmed ongoing investigations into the collision and expressed condolences to the families affected.
The scene of the collision remains closed for examination, and forensic investigations are underway. An incident room has been set up at Dundalk Garda Station for the investigation. Superintendent Armstrong emphasized the impact of the tragedy on the affected families and communities and urged anyone with information to contact the authorities. An Garda Síochána has requested that individuals with relevant information reach out to the investigation team at Dundalk Garda Station or through other designated channels.
