Anthony Joshua is facing potentially more severe injuries following a serious car accident in Nigeria. The incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, just outside Lagos, involving Joshua’s black Lexus Jeep colliding with a stationary red commercial Sinotruck. While Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, the crash tragically claimed the lives of his close friends, Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria released a statement detailing the incident, mentioning the involvement of the two vehicles and the casualties. The preliminary findings suggest that the speeding Lexus Jeep lost control during an overtaking maneuver, crashing into the stationary truck.
Despite initial reports of minor injuries, concerns have been raised about Joshua’s condition. Sources close to the former heavyweight champion fear that the damage could be more significant, with the possibility of rib and knee injuries being discussed within his inner circle.
Videos on social media showed Joshua playing table tennis with Ayodele shortly before the accident. Many have expressed condolences, with Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, leading the tributes to the deceased friends. Matchroom Boxing confirmed the passing of Latz and Ghami, expressing condolences and requesting privacy for the affected families.
Following the accident, Joshua was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment, where he remains in stable condition for observation. The boxing community is mourning the loss of the two team members and offering support to those affected by the tragedy.
