Donald Trump issued a series of Presidential pardons today, diverging from his typical pattern of pardoning political allies, wealthy individuals, fraudsters, or insurrectionists linked to the January 6th events.
During the annual Thanksgiving tradition of “pardoning” two turkeys to save them from being consumed during the holiday season, Trump named this year’s fortunate recipients as Waddle and Gobble. Interestingly, Waddle did not attend the ceremony, with the details surrounding his absence remaining undisclosed.
In a supposedly heartwarming moment at the event, Trump formally pardoned Gobble, emphasizing the unconditional nature of the pardon. However, the atmosphere shifted as he made inappropriate jokes and comments.
Aside from joking about a torture facility and taking jabs at Joe Biden and the Governor of Illinois, Trump inaccurately claimed that Washington DC had not experienced any murders for the past six months, despite there being documented cases. He also expressed frustration over not being able to replicate his actions in Chicago.
Furthermore, Trump criticized the Governor of Illinois, referring to him disparagingly, and made controversial remarks about sending the turkeys to a notorious prison in El Salvador. Additionally, Trump humorously mentioned that he considered naming the turkeys after political rivals but decided against it, asserting that he would never pardon those individuals.
Lastly, he mocked Biden for using an “autopen” to issue last year’s turkey pardons, declaring those pardons as invalid.
