In our society, the dire circumstances faced by many families have been normalized, with children growing up in cramped spaces, sharing limited resources, and feeling the stress of uncertain living conditions. This situation, often labeled as a housing crisis, is not a sudden event but rather a longstanding failure that has been overlooked.
Having personally witnessed these living conditions, I have seen firsthand the struggle families endure – from moldy walls to lack of basic furniture, and children feeling ashamed of their homes. It begs the question: How did we allow it to reach such alarming levels?
It is insufficient to attribute this crisis solely to a strained system or government shortcomings. Behind every excuse lies a child spending Christmas in unsuitable accommodations like offices or hostels. This reality prompted me to launch the GoFundMe campaign “172,000 Reasons to Give,” ensuring direct assistance to homeless children during the festive season.
Through this initiative, donations go directly to families as gift cards, allowing parents to choose meaningful presents for their children without delays or bureaucratic hurdles. Collaborating with schools in high-need areas, we aim to provide support where it is most needed. A modest donation of £30 can make a significant impact on a child living in temporary housing, showing them that they are not forgotten during the holidays.
