Known to the public as a recluse haunted by a past murder case, Tony Martin was a complex figure. During my encounters with Martin at his Bleak House farm estate, the location of the 1999 fatal shooting of Fred Barass, 16, Martin’s determination to clear his name from the manslaughter charge stemming from the incident was evident.
Despite the years that have passed since the downgrading of his murder conviction, Martin remained fixated on proving his innocence, believing he had been framed by a corrupt legal system.
