A non-profit organization founded by an American Christian musician is taking legal action against the city of Moncton for canceling a concert last year. Burn 24/7 Canada, established by Sean Feucht, filed a lawsuit in Moncton court on August 4, alleging that the city’s decision to revoke permits for the public park performance violated their freedom of expression rights.
The organization claims that the cancellation impeded upon their rights as outlined in section 2(b) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Feucht, known for his controversial views on various social issues, including the 2SLGBTQ+ community and abortion rights, leads the organization in hosting worship events across North America.
The concert, part of Feucht’s “Let Us Worship” tour, was scheduled for July 22, 2025, in Moncton but was abruptly called off by the city citing concerns over compliance with the city’s Code of Conduct and safety issues due to anticipated protests. Burn 24/7 Canada argues that the cancellation was unjustified and stemmed from the city’s discomfort with Feucht’s conservative Christian beliefs and support for former U.S. President Donald Trump.
The lawsuit seeks damages of $50,000 for costs incurred in relocating the event to an alternative venue near Fredericton. Despite the legal action, the city has refrained from commenting on the matter as it is now before the courts. This incident follows similar cancellations of Feucht’s shows in other Canadian cities, including near Halifax and Charlottetown, prompting legal battles in Quebec City as well.
The organization’s legal representative emphasized the importance of upholding free speech rights and discouraged governments from stifling controversial viewpoints. Burn 24/7 Canada maintains that they adhered to all city regulations and had taken necessary security measures for the event. The lawsuit remains untested in court, with no official response from the city as of the latest update.
