The Ottawa Rapid have introduced Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Moscato, a Canada Soccer Hall of Famer who participated in three Women’s World Cups and secured a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics, has a coaching background in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.
Following the announcement of current head coach Katrine Pedersen’s departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the season’s end, Moscato is set to join the team for the next two seasons, focusing on preparations for 2027, including player recruitment.
Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed his confidence in Moscato, citing her strong leadership skills, coaching expertise, and in-depth knowledge of Canadian soccer. Moscato, in turn, emphasized her eagerness to enhance the foundation already established by the Rapid and provide an environment conducive to player performance, development, and competitive excellence.
Ottawa currently leads the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, with their last defeat dating back to late May. The Rapid’s upcoming match is scheduled in Calgary on Saturday at 4 p.m., accessible for live viewing on CBC Gem.
