An Israeli airstrike conducted in the central Gaza Strip on Sunday resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians, one of whom was a three-year-old child, according to health officials. The strike near a bakery in Deir al-Balah claimed the lives of Tayyem Hamdan, aged 3, and Hussam Nusair, along with causing injuries to several others.
The Israeli military reported that the strike targeted and eliminated a Hamas militant, identifying Nusair as someone who had been involved in attacks against Israeli forces and civilians. Hamas has not yet responded to these allegations made by the military.
Despite a U.S.-supported ceasefire put in place last October to reduce major conflicts in the area, Israeli military actions have persisted, with the objective of preventing attacks by Hamas and other Gaza militants. Hamas has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement, hindering the implementation of a broader peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which includes Israeli withdrawals and Hamas disarmament.
Since the ceasefire agreement came into effect last October, over 1,300 Palestinians in Gaza have lost their lives, as reported by health officials in Gaza. In contrast, the Israeli military has confirmed the deaths of four Israeli soldiers during the same period.
