“Fatal Shooting at Swiss Party: Suspect Apprehended”

Date:

Swiss authorities reported on Monday the apprehension of a 43-year-old individual in connection with a fatal shooting during a party in Aarau over the weekend. The incident at a covered horse racing track early Sunday morning resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Italian woman and injuries to five others. Following a large-scale operation, police arrested the Swiss man just before 1 a.m. on Monday on suspicion of perpetrating the attack.

Authorities in the canton of Aargau stated that investigations into the incident’s circumstances, background, and potential motives are ongoing. It is currently believed that a sole perpetrator was involved, although further information was not disclosed. Officials mentioned three potential motives being considered for the shooting: a mass shooting, an act of terrorism, or an unspecified criminal intent.

Police discovered cartridges of two different calibers at the crime scene, indicating the possible use of a pistol and a larger weapon, potentially an assault rifle. While the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger suggested that the cartridges resembled those used in the Russian AK-74 assault rifle, police refrained from confirming this information. The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, identified the deceased 22-year-old as Maria Spinelli.
