“Saskatchewan Golfer Scores First Hole-in-One at Special Olympics”

Date:

A golfer from Saskatchewan achieved his first-ever hole-in-one and secured victory at the National Special Olympics event. Taylor Carter, a Regina resident, has been playing golf since the age of four and joined the Special Olympics team in 2013. The memorable moment occurred at the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club last Friday, leaving a lasting impact on Carter.

Describing the experience as surreal, Carter expressed how emotional it was for him every time he watched the video of the remarkable shot. His nephew, Ashton Carter, acted as his caddy during the competition. As they approached the 135-yard 16th hole, using a nine-iron, Taylor took the shot that led to the hole-in-one.

Witnessing the shot, Ashton immediately knew it was a good one. Taylor’s brother was the first to recognize the achievement, shouting “hole-in-one,” which led to jubilation among their family members. The moment was captured on video by Taylor’s sister-in-law, Kyra-Lee Carter.

Among those present to celebrate the achievement was Taylor’s best friend, Jason. Taylor mentioned the significance of having his friend there, recalling their previous competitions together in Berlin, Germany. His mother, Charlene, expressed her disbelief and joy at the momentous accomplishment.

Despite a spike in his heart rate due to the excitement, which his phone mistakenly interpreted as a medical emergency, Taylor maintained focus to finish the round strongly. He ended the three-day tournament with a total score of 162 over three rounds, securing the gold medal in his division.

Reflecting on the experience, Ashton described it as amazing and inspiring. Taylor, grateful for the support he received, emphasized the importance of celebrating with family and friends. He expressed uncertainty about future competitions but mentioned the significance of practice and gratitude for the journey so far.
