Russian drone attacks continued in Kyiv and the surrounding region for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, causing disruptions in daily life with constant air raid sirens. According to regional Gov. Tymur Tkachenko on Telegram, the attacks on Monday resulted in injuries to four individuals and damage to warehouse facilities, an apartment block, and a retail outlet in the Kyiv region.
The region has been plagued by swarms of drones, many of them jet-powered, leading to casualties, property damage, and disruptions. One particular strike on an ammunition depot on Friday resulted in explosions that claimed the lives of 38 people. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that the ongoing drone attacks were intended to wear down the Ukrainian population, with nearly 1,500 drones launched by Russia at Ukraine in four days, over half of them jet-powered.
Further incidents were reported, including a fire at a terminal operated by courier company Nova Poshta in the Odesa region due to a Russian strike. In the city of Kryvyi Rih, an industrial business was targeted by a jet-powered drone attack, injuring two individuals as confirmed by a local official.
Both Ukraine and Russia have escalated their strikes in recent times, targeting economic assets such as major e-commerce entities and retailers. Russia has focused on warehouses of Ukraine’s leading supermarket chains, top postal services, and home-goods stores. In retaliation, Ukraine also targeted Russian infrastructure, with a logistics hub in Yekaterinburg being hit by a drone attack as reported by the local governor.
Russia has intensified its air attacks, capitalizing on Ukraine’s lack of interceptors capable of downing ballistic missiles. The increased use of daytime drone waves has disrupted daily life for Kyiv residents, leading to halts in metro services and routine disruptions for commuters. Passengers in Kyiv faced delays as train services were halted during air raid alerts, causing inconvenience for many like 38-year-old nurse and psychologist Yulianna Oliynyk, who was stranded with her two sons en route to school due to the alerts.
Oliynyk expressed her frustration, indicating that the family had to spend the previous night with relatives due to disruptions caused by the alerts. She contemplated the possibility of sleeping in the metro station near the school due to the ongoing challenges faced amidst the drone attacks.
