Although Moscow has not yet faced the same fuel shortages as Crimea, experts warn that the energy industry in Russia is facing mounting pressure as Ukraine intensifies its attacks.
The recent attack, involving around 200 drones, struck Moscow and the surrounding areas while Russian President Putin was hosting leaders from Southeast Asian nations in Kazan. The assault resulted in injuries, fatalities, and extensive damage to buildings and infrastructure, including an oil storage tank explosion.
Following the attack, the CEO of Rosneft, Russia’s largest oil company, acknowledged the challenging conditions in the fuel market, citing high seasonal demand and refinery disruptions. The Kremlin confirmed the drone strikes and assured that measures were being taken to address the aftermath.
In Crimea, where transportation and fuel supply routes have been repeatedly targeted, fuel rationing measures are already in place. Reports of fuel shortages in various Russian regions, including Dagestan, have surfaced, prompting the country to consider importing fuel from Asia to mitigate the scarcity.
Ukrainian drone and missile manufacturer Fire Point showcased footage of the Moscow strikes at a defence convention in Paris, emphasizing the impact on Russia’s military operations. The company’s drones have been instrumental in targeting energy facilities and logistical routes crucial for Russia’s military activities in occupied Ukrainian territories.
