Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who served over seven years in prison for her mother’s killing, has spoken up following the death of her ex-fiancé and father of her child, Ken Urker, who was discovered deceased in his Raceland, La., residence on his birthday. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident and has not found any signs of foul play at this time. Deputies were dispatched to check on Urker’s well-being after he failed to show up for work shortly after mentioning suicide. Inside the house, authorities found Urker unresponsive, along with drug paraphernalia, a brown powdery substance, and a holstered handgun. The cause of death remains undetermined.
Blanchard expressed uncertainty about whether Urker’s death was intentional, noting his recent mental struggles. She mentioned that Urker faced severe scrutiny and cyberbullying during their relationship, suggesting that the pressure may have significantly impacted him. The pair connected in 2017 when Urker reached out to her while she was in prison after watching the HBO Documentary “Mommy Dead and Dearest,” which delves into the story of Blanchard’s mother, Dee Dee, who was suspected of causing her daughter’s illness.
Blanchard, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, had a tumultuous relationship with Urker, including a brief engagement in 2018 and subsequent reunion in 2019 after her marriage to Ryan Anderson. The couple welcomed a daughter, Aurora Rain Urker, in December 2024. Following Urker’s passing, Blanchard described him as a devoted father and her eternal love. She reflected on her troubled past in a recent podcast appearance and emphasized her efforts to move forward. Requests for further comments from Blanchard’s former representative are pending.
