A British man faced a nightmare abroad when he was wrongly imprisoned on drug charges, turning his dream life in Dubai into a living hell. Luke Tully, 47, had moved from north London to Dubai in 2018 to pursue his passion for running two restaurants and had been enjoying a lavish lifestyle in the tax-free city, earning a substantial income monthly. However, his world came crashing down when authorities arrested him on false accusations.
Tully, who was unjustly detained and convicted, recounted spending two harrowing years in a prison filled with criminals. His troubles began when he befriended an individual who organized VIP tables at a popular nightclub in Dubai, bringing large groups of people to Tully’s restaurants and considering him a friend.
The turning point came when Tully’s acquaintance was caught with cocaine, leading the police to investigate further and link Tully to the case based on a message found on his phone. The situation escalated dramatically when a group of plainclothes officers barged into Tully’s home, causing him to fear for his life and liberty.
Despite the absence of any incriminating evidence in his residence and negative drug test results, Tully was unjustly imprisoned without a fair trial. He described the appalling conditions in Dubai’s prison system, highlighting overcrowding and unsanitary facilities shared among inmates.
During his time behind bars, Tully faced a terrifying reality, including threats of severe punishment and the possibility of a life sentence or even the death penalty. Fortunately, after enduring 19 months of uncertainty, the case against him collapsed, leading to his eventual deportation back to the UK.
Reflecting on his traumatic experience, Tully expressed no regrets about his decision to move to Dubai, emphasizing the personal growth and lessons learned from the ordeal.
