A convicted double murderer, who brutally killed his ex-girlfriend’s parents, made a chilling plea before facing execution on death row in South Carolina, USA. Brad Keith Sigmon, aged 67, was put to death by a firing squad after the heinous crimes. The incident occurred when Sigmon broke into the home of David and Gladys Larke in Greenville County following a breakup with their daughter, Rebecca Barbare. The couple had been in a relationship for nearly three years while living in a trailer park near the Larke residence.
After a night of substance abuse, Sigmon confided in a friend about his plan to harm Rebecca and her parents. Armed with a baseball bat, he viciously attacked both victims, striking each of them nine times on the head during the tragic events in 2001. The court revealed that David suffered severe head injuries, with his skull nearly split in half. Sigmon also attempted to abduct Rebecca at gunpoint, but she managed to escape unharmed.
Following the murders, Sigmon went on the run for 11 days before being apprehended in Tennessee. He was sentenced to death in 2002 and awaited execution on death row until his death in early March 2025. Opting for a firing squad over the electric chair due to fears of a painful death, Sigmon faced his fate on March 8, 2025, at the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
During the execution, Sigmon was restrained in a chair with a hood covering his head and a target on his chest. He delivered his last words through his lawyer, expressing remorse and calling for an end to the death penalty, citing a shift in his beliefs towards grace and mercy. The execution was carried out by three riflemen, and despite some controversy over the method’s pain level, Sigmon’s death was witnessed by members of the Larke family and his spiritual advisor.
As the .308 Winchester Tap Urban bullets ended his life, Sigmon’s final moments were observed, with his chest moving several times post-shooting.
