FC Metz’s young talent, Tahirys Dos Santos, sustained injuries during a tragic fire in Crans-Montana on New Year’s Day, resulting in the loss of 47 lives. Dos Santos, a 19-year-old player, was reportedly present at Le Constellation Bar in the Swiss ski resort when the fire erupted in the early hours of the morning.

Following the incident, Dos Santos was airlifted to Germany for treatment of his burns. FC Metz released a statement on their official website expressing deep sorrow over the ordeal. The club informed that Dos Santos, a youth player from Mont-Saint-Martin, suffered severe burns and is currently undergoing treatment in Germany.

The management, players, coaches, and staff of FC Metz conveyed their condolences to Dos Santos and his family during this challenging period. The club assured its full support to Dos Santos’ family and is coordinating with medical authorities for his transfer to Mercy Hospital near his residence.

Updates on Dos Santos’ condition will be shared as necessary, while FC Metz urged everyone to respect the privacy of the player and his family. The fire in Crans-Montana, attributed to sparklers in champagne bottles, claimed 47 lives, leaving families in anguish as they search for missing loved ones.

Witnesses recounted how the fire quickly engulfed the bar, causing chaos as occupants rushed to evacuate through a narrow exit. Apart from the reported fatalities, approximately 115 individuals, mostly in their teens to mid-20s, sustained injuries.

Authorities described the blaze as an “embrasement generalise,” a term signifying the rapid ignition of combustible gases resulting in a violent fire outbreak. Victims suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation, with some requiring transfer to specialized hospitals across Switzerland.

In response to the tragedy, King Charles III expressed deep sadness over the incident, extending sympathy to those affected. The UK monarch lauded the first responders and emergency services for their heroic efforts and conveyed heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the families of the deceased and those battling critical conditions in hospitals.
