Jet2 Launches Flights to Tallinn’s Winter Wonderland

Date:

Jet2 will introduce three new routes to a city break destination renowned for its medieval old town and Christmas market. Flights from Edinburgh to Tallinn will commence on November 27, followed by launches from Manchester and Birmingham on November 28. These seasonal flights align perfectly with the enchanting winter season in Tallinn, offering picturesque snowy landscapes leading up to Christmas, with December flights available for only £30.

Described as a “medieval fairytale” by Jet2, Tallinn’s UNESCO-listed old town features historic squares, cobbled streets, and vibrant architecture. The city beckons visitors to leisurely stroll amidst well-preserved buildings, savoring strong coffee and delectable pirukad pastries along the way.

During the winter months, Tallinn’s old town transforms into a magical setting adorned with Christmas lights and a dusting of snow. The Christmas Market, open from November 21 to December 28, showcases wooden stalls offering traditional crafts, fairground amusements, and a whimsically lit land train for a tour of the town.

At the heart of the square lies what locals claim to be Europe’s oldest Christmas tree, dating back to 1441. After exploring the square, indulge in traditional Christmas delicacies like gingerbread, Estonian specialties such as black pudding and cabbage, and the popular winter treat, verivorst, a spicy sausage.

Tallinn’s walkable city center boasts remarkable landmarks, including the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral with its distinctive onion domes and the Toompea Castle, a medieval fortress now home to Estonia’s parliament. Visitors can also marvel at Kadriorg Palace, a baroque masterpiece surrounded by expansive parklands offering a glimpse of the Baltic Sea.

Accommodation options in the old town range from hotels to hostels and apartments. The historic Nunne Boutique Hotel, with its four-star rating and timeless allure, offers twin rooms starting at £70 per night, inclusive of access to the spa facilities. For a unique stay, the character-filled Merchants House Hotel provides 36 rooms and suites near the top attractions of the old town, with economy double rooms available for just £66 per night for two guests.
