John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Tory stated that he looks forward to collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to contribute to its future direction.
Tory’s term officially commences on October 1, as announced in a recent press release. The festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20 this year. He takes over the position from Jeffrey Remedios, who had been serving as chair since 2021. In his departure, Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing his enduring pride in his involvement in the festival’s evolution.
In addition to the chairmanship change, TIFF disclosed the appointment of three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Concurrently, Asha Daniere, who had been on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF conveyed its gratitude to Daniere for her dedicated service and contributions to the organization.
