“Markham Revs Up for First-Ever NTT IndyCar Series Event”

Date:

Markham is abuzz with exciting motorsports action as it gears up to host the NTT IndyCar Series this weekend for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy event. While IndyCar has a history in Toronto, this marks the first time the race will be held outside the city on a brand-new track layout.

The event will feature a 3.52-kilometre, 12-turn course that winds through various locations, including the Unionville GO station, York University Markham Campus, and the Markham Pan Am Centre. To help attendees get to the track, it is recommended to utilize GO Transit, York Region Transit, or drive via Highway 407, with parking available west of the event grounds.

Metrolinx is enhancing Stouffville Line services with additional trips to accommodate race-goers. Furthermore, increased York Region Transit service and shuttle services from designated parking lots to the event grounds in Markham are being provided.

Residents in Markham have been enduring construction impacts in preparation for the event, including road closures and temporary restrictions. Various roads in Markham Centre, such as Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, and others, will be closed until Monday morning, with some closures extending until August 27 for track dismantling.

The main event on Sunday will be the IndyCar race, with Spaniard Alex Palou leading the charge as the points leader and a top contender for victory. Notable drivers to watch include Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, and Rinus Veekay. Local talents like Anthony Martella and Chase Pelletier will also be showcasing their skills in support series races.

Drivers have noted the unique challenges of the Markham track, which features newly paved roads and distinctive elevation changes. Tickets for the racing action are available for Saturday and Sunday, with Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions open to the public for free as part of Fan Friday. Attendees are encouraged to consider making a donation to Make-A-Wish Canada upon entry.

Don’t miss out on this thrilling motorsports extravaganza in Markham!
