Jasmin Esquivel made an unexpected journey from Saskatchewan to British Columbia earlier this summer, not knowing that her life was on the verge of a significant change. Shortly after arriving, Esquivel was named Mrs. Canada Universe 2026 at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey, B.C.
Having five children and years passed since her last pageant at 17, Esquivel expressed her surprise and gratitude for the achievement. The opportunity to participate in the contest at 43 ignited a spark within her, describing it as a deeply ingrained memory.
Residing in Prince Albert, Sask., with her children, Esquivel credited her family for their unwavering support and inspiration throughout her journey to the crown, despite her initial hesitations about entering the competition. Her eldest daughter, Brianna Balajonda, shared their initial shock turning into admiration and inspiration as they witnessed her dedication and training.
Esquivel emphasized her children as her driving force for wearing the national crown, highlighting their presence and encouragement during the pageant preparations. Engaging in community service activities such as volunteering in care homes and organizing sports events, Esquivel and her family immersed themselves in giving back to their community before the pageant.
Her ultimate goal is to encourage women and mothers to pursue their dreams, emphasizing that there is always room in life for personal aspirations even while raising children. Esquivel stressed that motherhood should not hinder one’s pursuit of dreams, and that the crown symbolizes the continuation of personal aspirations.
Esquivel is set to represent Canada and her hometown in Sri Lanka at the Mrs. Universe 2026 event in October. Her children eagerly await the opportunity to support and cheer for her on the global stage, expressing their unwavering love and encouragement.
