“Top Seed Aryna Sabalenka Dominates in U.S. Open Comeback”

Date:

Aryna Sabalenka arrived at the U.S. Open facing challenges and the risk of losing her No. 1 ranking. However, in the third round, she displayed remarkable form, defeating Polina Iatcenko 6-1, 6-1 in just 53 minutes on Wednesday night. Sabalenka showcased powerful hitting skills, indicating that her recent struggles may be a thing of the past.

Several matches were interrupted due to rain, limiting play to the covered courts at Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium. This allowed players on these courts to avoid the disruptions faced by others on outdoor courts.

Carlos Alcaraz followed Sabalenka’s victory with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 win over Jaime Faria. Jessica Pegula also had a swift victory, defeating Sofia Kenin 6-3, 6-1 in only 56 minutes. Ben Shelton and Daniil Medvedev secured wins as well.

Sabalenka expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating that she feels mentally and physically stronger than before. She aims to achieve a rare three-peat at Flushing Meadows, but she needs assistance to maintain her WTA top ranking.

The U.S. Open’s schedule was affected by rain delays, extending the first-round matches into the fourth day. Players like Alex de Minaur had to adapt to changing court assignments but managed to secure wins. Paula Badosa also navigated through uncertainties to win her match against Daria Kasatkina.

In another round of matches, several players advanced to the next stage, including Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova and runner-up Karolina Muchova. Marta Kostyuk overcame 2017 U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens, setting up a clash with Leylah Fernandez in the next round.
