Police have initiated a significant investigation following the apprehension of a man accused of multiple attempts to forcibly push a screaming woman into a car in a busy city setting.
The woman, aged in her 30s, was audibly calling for help as she was pursued by a man in the Clifton region of Bristol who endeavored to push her into a Peugeot 207 on September 30. Avon and Somerset Police stated that the man was confronted by a member of the public who shouted at him while the woman was whisked away in the vehicle.
Subsequently, the car came to a stop on the A39 in Coxley, near Wells, Somerset, where the victim managed to escape the vehicle. However, the man tried to coerce her back inside.
Authorities reported that the man drove away without her when several cars pulled up behind. Shortly after, still in Coxley, the car was driven towards the victim before the man once again forced her into the vehicle and drove off. Several passing vehicles witnessed the scene, according to the police.
The car was then taken to a small car park on Rowdens Road, where the victim was heard shouting for help towards three members of the public before being pulled away by the man.
Following this, the man fled the scene while the three men who assisted the victim by providing her a ride away from the area and to safety were on a black saloon car. Detectives are eager to speak to these individuals as potential key witnesses.
Detective Constable Kirsty Richards mentioned that the department was investigating the “truly shocking series of incidents” and urged the public to provide any relevant information. She emphasized that the victim is being supported by specialized officers and reassured that there is no broader public risk as the incident involved individuals with a prior relationship.
The investigation has identified several potential witnesses to various parts of the incident and the car involved. Authorities are particularly interested in speaking with the individual who attempted to intervene in Bristol, drivers who witnessed the events in Coxley, and the three men who aided the victim in Wells.
Authorities believe that these individuals may possess critical information for the investigation and encourage them to reach out promptly.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses information that could assist the police inquiries has been urged to contact the non-emergency number 101. Individuals providing information are requested to reference number 5225274967 or complete the online appeals form provided by Avon and Somerset Police.
