“Reform UK Member Accused of Fabricating Boxing Club Support”

Date:

A member of Reform UK is facing accusations of making up a story about assisting a charity boxing club in her constituency. Sarah Pochin claimed to have secured funding for Runcorn Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) in order to aid young individuals in the region, as seen in a now-deleted video on social media.

The boxing club contradicted these allegations, stating they had not received any financial support from Reform. They demanded an apology from the MP, emphasizing their charity status and lack of affiliation with any political party. Additionally, they highlighted that Ms. Pochin had not obtained permission to film at their premises.

In response to the club’s denial, Ms. Pochin clarified that the funding she referenced was actually secured for Diverse Sports Runcorn (DSR), which operates separately within the ABC’s facilities. She later deleted a post after ABC reiterated their stance of non-alignment with political parties and refuted receiving any financial assistance.

In a subsequent Facebook update, Ms. Pochin admitted that there was no new funding allocated to Runcorn Amateur Boxing Club, clarifying that the support had been sourced from existing resources earmarked for the following year.
