Two primary schools in Manchester took precautionary measures this afternoon as police responded to an incident on Wood Street.
Authorities were called to Wood Street around 12.10pm after receiving reports of a man causing disturbance and making threats in the area.
A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police stated that a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of a public order offense following the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
Bowlee Park Community School and St Mary’s RC Primary School informed parents of the situation and implemented safety protocols, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
In a statement, Bowlee Park reassured parents that while the school was not directly impacted, they chose to keep students indoors for the remainder of the day as a precautionary measure. Regular activities were to proceed as planned, and parents were not required to pick up their children early.
St Mary’s also confirmed the incident, mentioning that a person was shouting near the school premises, prompting a brief lockdown until police arrived.
This event followed a previous evacuation at Bowlee Park in June due to threatening phone calls, which turned out to be a hoax. Additionally, both schools were put on lockdown two weeks earlier after reports of a man carrying a knife near Bowlee Park.
