Scottie Scheffler has now joined the exclusive $100 million club alongside golf icons Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy following his impressive victory at The American Express tournament.
As the current world No.1, Scheffler sent a strong message to the reigning Masters champion with his stellar performance in California. Last year, the American faced a setback in January due to a hand injury caused by a broken wine glass while preparing ravioli during the Christmas season.
However, Scheffler has kicked off the new season in remarkable fashion, securing a commanding four-shot win with a final round score of six-under 66, finishing at 27-under par. This victory marked his 20th win on the PGA Tour within the last four years, granting him a lifetime membership. Notably, nine of his wins have been by a margin of four shots or more.
With his earnings reaching $101,109,136 on the course, Scheffler has now entered the elite group of players who have surpassed the $100 million mark in PGA Tour winnings, joining the likes of Woods and McIlroy. At 29 years old, he has also achieved a milestone shared only with Woods and Jack Nicklaus by capturing 20 PGA Tour titles and four majors before turning 30.
Reflecting on his success, Scheffler humbly expressed his gratitude for being mentioned alongside golf legends like Woods and Nicklaus, emphasizing the importance of staying focused and prepared.
Since claiming his first victory at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open, Scheffler has outpaced McIlroy with 11 more wins, securing his seventh victory in his last 13 stroke-play events. Maintaining a consistent performance, Scheffler has not finished below T-8 since his T-20 finish at The Players last March.
Acknowledging Scheffler’s exceptional achievements, former world No.1 Jason Day praised his consistency and competitive spirit, likening his performance to that of Tiger Woods. Looking ahead, Scheffler remains optimistic about further improvement, especially after a slow start in the previous season.
Additionally, the tournament saw young talent Blades Brown making waves by playing in the final group alongside Scheffler. Despite finishing tied for 18th place, Brown expressed awe and admiration for Scheffler’s winning performance, highlighting the surreal experience of witnessing victory firsthand.
As Scheffler continues to make strides in his career, his dedication and resilience on the course position him as a formidable contender in the upcoming Masters tournament, set to commence on April 9.
