At least one individual has tragically lost their life, and ten others have sustained injuries following a devastating incident where a vehicle crashed into a group of people in Japan. The harrowing event unfolded in central Tokyo, where approximately twelve individuals were struck by the vehicle before the driver attempted to escape on foot. Regrettably, an elderly pedestrian, believed to be in his 80s, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while a young woman in her 20s was found severely hurt and unconscious. She was promptly transported to the hospital for urgent medical care. The tragic collision occurred around 12:30 pm on Monday in Adachi Ward of the city.
Law enforcement authorities in Tokyo swiftly pursued the fleeing suspect and successfully apprehended him approximately 500 meters away from the scene. The man has been taken into custody for further investigation.
Authorities are treating the incident as a hit-and-run, while also exploring a potential connection to a recent vehicle theft from a nearby dealership that occurred two hours prior to the crash.
This distressing event follows a previous occurrence where a car rammed into a group of students leaving a school in Japan, resulting in injuries to at least seven individuals. Emergency services were urgently summoned outside Senbon Elementary School in Tokyo following the alarming incident. The alleged perpetrator, Yazawa Yuki, 28, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
After the crash, the suspect, a resident of Higashimurayama City, confessed, stating, “I was disillusioned with life, so I attempted to harm others by deliberately running over several elementary school students with my vehicle.”
