A man convicted of murdering a mother over 36 years ago was executed on death row in Florida. Mark Allen Geralds, aged 58, became the 18th person to be executed in Florida this year. Before his execution, Geralds expressed his remorse, saying he loved someone every day but missed them. Following the injection of three drugs, Geralds took deep breaths, quivered, and eventually became still in a matter of minutes.
The victim, Tressa Pettibone, was found dead in her home by her eight-year-old son. After the execution, a statement on behalf of Pettibone’s family was read, expressing relief that justice had been served after years of appeals and legal battles.
Pettibone was remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and friend who cherished her family. She had a passion for Christmas, decorating her home extensively and creating handmade gifts that her family still treasures.
Geralds, a carpenter who had worked on Pettibone’s home, was linked to the crime through evidence such as pawned jewelry with the victim’s blood and matching plastic ties found in his possession. He was convicted of murder and armed robbery in 1990, and after a legal process, was resentenced to death in 1992.
This execution marked the end of a long and painful chapter for Pettibone’s family, finally bringing closure after decades of waiting for justice.
