“Trump Blames Biden for National Guard Shooting Fallout”

Date:

Donald Trump has criticized Afghan refugees, Somali immigrants, and Joe Biden following the shooting of two National Guard troops in Washington DC. Trump blamed the Biden administration for allowing Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal into the country under Operation Allies Welcome after the fall of Kabul in 2021. He accused Biden of extending Lakanwal’s status, labeling him as a security threat.

Trump also targeted the Somali community in Minnesota, alleging they were causing harm to the state. He vowed to increase deportations, emphasizing the need to review all individuals entering the US from Afghanistan under Biden’s administration.

However, it was clarified that Lakanwal applied for asylum in 2024 during Trump’s presidency, and his asylum was granted in April 2025. The wounded National Guard troops’ identities and conditions remain unconfirmed, with conflicting reports circulating. These troops were part of a deployment to DC during Trump’s administration in response to perceived crime concerns, despite crime rates actually decreasing.
