“Trump Expands Travel Ban to Over 30 Countries”

Date:

President Donald Trump is reportedly gearing up to broaden the scope of a travel restriction affecting entry into the United States to encompass individuals from over 30 countries. This decision follows a temporary halt on immigration applications from 19 nations and the cancellation of citizenship ceremonies nationwide due to concerns over national security.

Initially, Trump imposed restrictions on 19 countries, mainly from African or Muslim-majority regions such as Afghanistan, Iran, and Libya. However, the President is now poised to include 11 additional countries in what is being described as one of the most comprehensive travel bans in history. Nationals from Afghanistan, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen are among those prohibited from entering the US under the updated regulations effective since June 9.

Furthermore, the proclamation also imposes partial restrictions on foreign nationals from seven more countries – Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela – from entering the United States. These bans are part of a series of anti-immigration measures introduced by Trump, including blocking asylum claims at the southern border and directing heavily armed ICE immigration officers to conduct raids across the country.

While President Trump has not officially commented on the matter, Secretary of State Kristi Noem hinted at an expanded “full travel ban” through social media discussions proposing an increase in the number of restricted countries during a meeting with the President. Noem advocated for the inclusion of countries she deemed responsible for criminal elements and financial burden on the nation.

Trump has previously criticized former President Joe Biden for permitting unchecked migrants to enter the US. In his initial term, Trump explicitly expressed his intention to restrict citizens from nations where Islam is the predominant religion, leading to a travel ban on individuals from seven Muslim-majority countries.
