UFC sensation Paddy Pimblett is leading an initiative to enhance mental well-being through the platform of mixed martial arts.
Pimblett, a contender for a lightweight championship bout in the upcoming year, has been a vocal supporter of mental health causes. Following his victory over Jordan Leavitt in London in 2022, where he shared about losing a close friend to suicide, Pimblett founded The Baddy Foundation. This organization aims to address food insecurity issues and combat the stigma associated with men’s mental health.
In addition to his existing efforts, Pimblett has taken on the role of ambassador for UFC’s collaboration with OnSide. This partnership involves offering weekly discussions for young individuals, focusing on self-discipline, self-defense techniques, confidence-building, coordination enhancement, and mental fortitude in a secure and encouraging setting led by expert mentors.
Expressing his gratitude for his upbringing in Liverpool and his current representation of the city in the UFC spotlight, Pimblett emphasized how martial arts transformed his life by providing unexpected opportunities. He expressed pride in supporting the program that enables youth in Wirral to discover their passions, cultivate confidence, and realize their attainable aspirations.
OnSide’s CEO, Jamie Masraff, highlighted the positive impact of the partnership with UFC, with youth at designated Youth Zones benefiting from top-tier martial arts sessions. The collaboration now extends to The Hive, focusing on well-being support groups that resonate with UFC’s commitment to bolstering the mental health of young individuals. These sessions offer a platform for open dialogue, confidence-building, resilience strengthening, and a sense of belonging for participants.
Reflecting on his personal challenges, Pimblett emphasized the importance of breaking the silence around men’s mental health struggles. Encouraging men to seek support rather than suffer in silence, he stressed the significance of reaching out for help to prevent tragic outcomes.
