Residents of Prince Andrew Avenue in Australia are considering renaming the street due to the scandal involving Prince Andrew. This initiative mirrors similar calls in Maidenhead, Berks, and Broadstairs, Kent, in the UK. Following the stripping of his titles and eviction from his royal residence due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein, there is a push to disassociate from Prince Andrew. Local councillor Michael Labrador supports the name change, emphasizing that individuals who have been disgraced should not be honored with street names. Tony George, a resident of Prince Andrew Avenue, is open to the change, acknowledging its inevitability.
The Whittlesea City Council in Australia has sought guidance from Geographic Names Victoria regarding the potential renaming process. According to Victoria’s naming rules, street names should be enduring and altered only when necessary. The council stated that if there is substantial resident support for a name change, a formal consultation will be conducted, followed by a proposal submission for assessment.
Meanwhile, US Congressman Suhas Subramanyam claimed that Jeffrey Epstein might have facilitated meetings between Prince Andrew and additional individuals. Subramanyam, part of the inquiry into the ‘Epstein Files’, highlighted testimonies from survivors of Epstein who provided valuable information about Andrew and other influential figures. The congressman, along with 15 Democratic committee members, sent a letter to Prince Andrew demanding his testimony under oath regarding his knowledge of Epstein’s sex-trafficking activities.
