Enes Kanter Freedom, a former NBA center, was removed from the Indiana-Chicago WNBA game on Sunday night following a confrontation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud in the third quarter. Kanter, seated along the baseline, wore a black shirt displaying the words “WOMAN noun. adult human female.”
After Cloud scored a basket and initiated a celebratory moment with a teammate, she turned towards Kanter, shouting and gesturing as she approached him. Security and several Sky players intervened as Kanter stood with outstretched arms, stepping onto the court briefly.
Chicago forward Azura Stevens downplayed the incident, focusing on the game despite the Sky’s loss. Coach Tyler Marsh reassured Cloud that she was not a distraction to the team, emphasizing her role in protecting and supporting others.
Following the altercation, Kanter engaged with security and the crowd before being escorted from the court area. He later conversed with police officers before leaving Wintrust Arena.
Cloud, meeting with team and league security post-game, refrained from speaking to the media but shared a supportive message for transgender individuals on social media. The WNBA has become a subject of debate regarding the inclusion of transgender women, with ongoing discussions around participation guidelines.
