Climber Rescued After 100+ Wasp Stings in B.C. Wilds

Date:

A climber in British Columbia required helicopter rescue after sustaining over 100 wasp stings in the remote area north of Vancouver. The incident occurred on Redoubt Wall near Loggers Creek, prompting the Lions Bay Search and Rescue team to respond.

Upon encountering the swarm of insects, the female climber faced a significant number of stings, leading to concerns of a severe allergic reaction. In response, emergency medical supplies were dispatched to the location as a precaution.

Recognizing the climber’s condition and the challenging terrain, a helicopter extraction by North Shore Rescue was requested. Rescuers were deployed to assist in airlifting the climber through dense tree cover before transferring her to B.C. Emergency Health Services for further treatment.

Located approximately 40 kilometers north of Vancouver along the Sea to Sky Highway, Redoubt Wall served as the backdrop for this incident. Lions Bay Search and Rescue emphasized the rapid escalation of wasp encounters into serious backcountry emergencies, especially when individuals sustain a high number of stings.
