A woman with three children tragically lost her life after attempting to rescue her own pet dog from a stray dog she had taken in. Barbara Brewington, 38, was found in critical condition in the yard of her home in Bonnetsville, North Carolina, on November 23. She had welcomed a stray mixed breed dog into her home six months prior, which suddenly turned aggressive towards her smaller dog before attacking Barbara as she intervened.
Despite Barbara’s efforts, her pet survived the attack, while the stray dog was euthanized by an animal control team at the scene. Barbara sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them despite the efforts of first responders.
Sheriff Jimmy Thornton of Sampson County revealed that Ms. Brewington was trying to separate the stray dog from her pet when the stray became violent and attacked her. Barbara managed to save her smaller dog and bring it inside before collapsing. She was described as a dedicated mother of three and a dental assistant at Village Family Dental.
Her sister, Samantha, set up a GoFundMe page to support Barbara’s children, emphasizing Barbara’s loving and vibrant personality. The fundraising campaign has already surpassed $24,700 of its $26,000 goal. Colleagues and friends shared heartfelt messages honoring Barbara’s memory and expressing condolences to her family.
Tributes continue to pour in for Barbara online, with an outpouring of support for her husband Bradley. Friends and well-wishers remember Barbara as a beautiful and kind-hearted individual who will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
