Within two days, the majority of the migrants departed, largely of their own volition.
This event has sparked a political crisis for the pro-immigration Spanish government within an increasingly anti-immigration European Union that prioritizes border security. There are lingering questions about the circumstances that led to this situation and assigning responsibility.
